Welcome my fellow readers!
Growing up in an extremely conservative community doused my sexuality in shame and warped my expectations for what relationships should look like. While I tended toward the rebellious response, there were many aspects of my sexuality that I had to choose to embrace in spite of the ingrained messages of shame. Romance literature gave me the vocabulary to express desires and consent with partners that I never would have learned from the community that taught that abstinence was the rule and marriage eliminated the need for consent.
I especially love reading inclusive stories, stories with strong female characters, and am a sucker for a series I can binge. I also live for analyzing the characters and plot in whatever I’m reading, but can just as easily appreciate the classic romantic tropes as long as a book is well written. A guaranteed 10/10 for me is an unpredictable plot, dynamic main characters, and an excellent antagonist.
FUN FACT: I stopped reading altogether when I first became a parent because I was struggling with PPD and finding it impossible to take time for myself that weren’t showers or sleep. In the years since, audio books brought reading back into my chaotic life. All the primary parents out there surely feel me on that. For that reason - all reading is created equal here and I will write about it as such, but that means I will also give my critique on the narration when I’ve listened to an audio book rather than reading the text!
My hope for this blog is to give myself the writing outlet I’ve been craving, create a thorough review platform specifically geared toward romance literature, and ensure that your TBR list never goes through a dry spell.
